The Elcometer 456 is a Coating Thickness Gauge designed for surface inspection and measurement.
Model Tier (Model B): The A456CFNFBI1 falls under the Model B category, which provides essential measurement features and on-screen statistics.
Probe Type (Integral): This variant features an internal probe built directly into the gauge for streamlined, one-handed operation.
Substrate Compatibility (FNF): It is equipped to measure coating thickness across both Ferrous (F) and Non-Ferrous (N) substrate types.
Dimensions: The gauge measures 141 x 73 x 37 mm (5.55 x 2.87 x 1.46″).
Weight: The integral model weighs 156 g (5.5 oz), which includes the weight of the batteries.
Power Supply: It operates using 2 x AA batteries, and rechargeable batteries can also be used.
Operating Environment: The device functions within an operating temperature range of -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F).
Screen: The gauge features a colour screen for clear data visibility.
Auto-Rotation: The screen settings include an Auto Display Rotation feature to improve readability at various viewing angles.
Multifunction Keys: Menu navigation is managed via multifunction softkeys.
Units of Measurement: The gauge can be configured to display thickness readings in µm, mm, mils, or inches.
The A456CFNFBI1 supports several calibration methods to ensure accuracy across different surfaces:
Zero Calibration: A 1-point calibration method that is ideal for smooth surfaces.
Smooth Calibration: A 2-point calibration where the user selects a suitable calibration foil along with an uncoated smooth substrate.
Rough / 2 Point Calibration: This is the ideal calibration method for rough or profiled substrates.
Security: A calibration lock can be enabled using a four-digit PIN code to secure calibration settings from accidental adjustment.
As a Model B device, it retains robust statistical tracking capabilities without requiring advanced batching.
On-Screen Statistics: The gauge calculates and displays the Number of Readings, Mean, Lowest Reading, Highest Reading, Standard Deviation, and Coefficient of Variation.
Bar Graph: A visual bar graph provides an analogue representation of the thickness value, along with the highest, lowest, and average readings.
PC Connectivity: The gauge features a USB data output socket. All gauges can transmit their readings to a PC for archiving and report generation.
