Detailed Overview

The Exertus Fortes is ISO3999:2004 compliant and built with robust safety features. It accepts both Ir-192 and Se-75 sources, with a maximum capacity of 120 Ci (4.44 TBq) for both isotopes. It is lighter than many competing models, weighing just 23 kg with its polyurethane jacket. A key design element is the source channel, which uses a helicoidal design and Tungsten shielding to ensure smoother movement of the source assembly, enhancing both user-friendliness and safety. It operates across a wide temperature range of -45°C up to +70°C.

The Exertus Fortes offers a superior combination of high-capacity source handling, exceptional portability and advanced safety mechanisms, making it an efficient and user-friendly choice for high-volume field radiography projects.

  • Safety is ensured by the Automatic Source Assembly Locking Mechanism and the 2 Colour Signal Safety Indicator, which provide immediate mechanical and visual operational security.

Top Features & Benefits

  • Accepts Ir-192 or Se-75 sources (up to 120 Ci).
  • Tungsten source channel and helicoidal labyrinth for smooth operation and durability.
  • Lightweight: Just 23 kg with Jacket.
  • Compact Design.
  • Automatic Source Assembly Locking Mechanism.
  • 2 Colour Signal Safety Indicator for safety status communication.
  • Projector can be disconnected and locked only with source in safe position.

Primary Uses & Functions

The Exertus Fortes is primarily designed as an Exposure Container in compliance with ISO 3999: 2004 and  Transport Package in compliance with IAEA SSR-6 (2018).

Its function is, via the use of a Remote Control, to project a radioactive source along a Guide Tube to and from the point of radiography and to securely store the source once radiography has been completed.

Real-World Applications

The Exertus Fortes can be used for radiographic inspections of welds in pipework and pressure vessels and castings up to 100mm thick in both field and shop environments. It is ideal for field work due to its portability and robust design.

FAQ:

What safety features are critical in a gamma ray projector?
  1. An automatic source assembly locking mechanism – This ensures that the radioactive source is locked in the safe position after each exposure and during transport.
  2. A coloured safety signal indicator – This ensures that the operator is visually aware of the status of the source. GREEN – the source is safe / RED – the source is exposed
What radiation source is typically used with the Fortes projector?

The projector is designed to accept Ir-192 or Se-75
