Detailed Overview

Most collimators are constructed of Tungsten Heavy Alloy for maximum attenuation. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes in both directional and panoramic formats. Directional beam options typically  include variations from 30° thru’ 90°.

Primary Uses & Functions

• Tungsten Heavy Alloy used to provide shaping and direction of the primary radiation beam
• Shielding of the radiation beam in other directions
• Reduction of  barrier distance

Real-World Applications

• Used in Gamma Ray Radiography to reduce the radiation beam spread (directional collimation)
• They are usually connected to the end of a guide tube to direct the primary radiation beam towards the film.
• Certain collimators can also be directly connected to Gamma Ray Projectors.
• They significantly reduce the size of the controlled area during exposure
• When used in conjunction with other shielding methods reduced barrier distances allow non-radiation work to continue in close proximity.
